Corner House

Corner House is situated on a southwest-facing plot within a private road in Esher. The existing house suffered from a poor internal layout that restricted the full potential of the site, leading the clients to choose a complete rebuild. The brief was to design an Arts and Crafts house that seamlessly integrates modern amenities while retaining the charm of a traditional English home. Encompassing 10,000 sqft, the new residence features six bedrooms, a library, a fitness suite, a cinema room, an outdoor pool, a double garage, and various other amenities suited to contemporary living.

The ground floor is thoughtfully designed to enhance the connection between the interior spaces and the garden, with the kitchen, dining, and living rooms opening directly onto the outdoor area. The formal sitting room overlooks the pool and pool house, while a grand entrance hallway features a striking staircase leading to a three-storey atrium, promoting a sense of flow throughout the home. The top two floors accommodate six bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, an office, and a cinema room, with the master suite featuring a spacious balcony offering sweeping views over the garden. First floor also includes a dressing room, with a full-height oak window inviting natural light and garden views.

The interior designers, The L&C Company, furnished the house, bringing the space to life with their thoughtful selection of finishes and furnishings. The exterior showcases a large double-height stone porch, crittall windows and doors, and feature brickwork, with an oak framework finished in lime render for authenticity. The design’s massing, form, and materials contribute to Corner House’s prominent presence on the street, harmoniously capturing sightlines and imparting a timeless quality, as if the house has always belonged in its setting.
